Construction Connections¶
Edit > Perpendicular Connection requires exactly one selected node and one member. It projects the node onto the member's actual XY or XYZ line and adds a frame to that foot. The foot must lie within the member span; an endpoint foot reuses that endpoint, while an interior foot splits the target into explicit segments. This uses full spatial geometry rather than the current 3D work plane.
Edit > Connect Member Midpoints requires exactly two selected members. It splits both at their midpoints and adds a frame between the shared joints. Coincident endpoints, duplicate or overlapping connectors, and additional crossings/interior nodes requiring other shared joints are rejected. These helpers only split the selected members; unrelated geometry needs explicit split/connect operations.
Both commands open a native preview with solid existing geometry, a dashed connector, endpoint IDs/coordinates in project units, length, node/split counts and the new member's material/section. Spatial previews offer isometric, XY, XZ and YZ projections. Apply makes one undoable engineering edit; Cancel keeps the model and results. A changed model invalidates an open preview.
Original segments retain assignments, rolled axes and outer-end releases. Existing coincident joints keep their supports, springs and nodal loads. Manual load cases, physical stations and partial distributed intensity profiles follow the existing split rules, including rolled local spatial loads at cuts. The new connector is a frame using project defaults, without releases or manual loads and with zero spatial roll. Enabled self-weight includes its added length. Adding the connection changes stiffness and invalidates results; analyze again.
